About the project
Format is a humanist typeface drawing best from the characteristics of display and text roman faces. A large set of discretionary ligatures makes it stand out in titles – speaking with bold, personal voice. Being inspired by the classic capital Roman and Renaissance engraved inscriptions, it translates historic forms to contemporary graphic language, using modern proportions and low contrast. In lowercase, large x-height, compact proportions and prominent optical compensations also support display use – while being paired with open counters and glyphic serifs, the whole feature set enhance legibility and readability at text sizes in print and on screen. The combination of its characteristics make it highly versatile and suited for use in huge variety of cases: books, magazines, posters, websites, branding, packaging or signage.
